Ms.Jernigan is a Cum Laude graduate of Spelman College, where she majored in English and minored in Education Studies. She attended Spelman as a Bonner Scholar, an honor received as a result of her commitment to community service.
Ms. Jernigan's social consciousness is something that transcends into the classroom. Thus, her heart’s desire is to see equality in education, especially for minority students. She was a participant in the Urban Educator Leader Internship Program (Washington, DC), and she taught 8th grade English as part of a summer program with Breakthrough Atlanta (on the campus of Lovett Schools). She is currently in her second year of teaching at Wesley International Academy.
In an effort to expand her horizons in education and enhance her professional development, Ms. Jernigan's international experiences include Rio de Janeiro where she studied concepts of colorism within the Brazilian population, and Havana, Cuba, where she studied how the education system intersects with cultural and political structures. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in teaching at Georgia State University. Her focus is Language Arts and Social Studies.
